The Coos Art Museum is proud to once again Host our friend and talented Eugene based artist, Zoe Cohen, as instructor for her inspiring abstract painting course!

IN MORE DETAIL

This weekend workshop focuses specifically on non-representational abstraction paintings created in series. We will be creating a group of works to utilize the structure of this processes in an otherwise free form medium.

Here we focus on developing the practice of intentionality in our work. We’ll assign ourselves specific tasks, thus generating a clear direction to explore in a small series through guided exercises and studio time.

This class is designed to help non-representational painters move forward by taking an in-depth inquiry into their art making process. Through writing, reflection, examining contemporary artwork, instructor demos and ample studio time students discover what works for them.
Class demonstrations will zero in on color, line, shape, mark-making & compositional formats.

Working on several paintings simultaneously, we build interest through additive and subtractive processes. Participants will create abstract images which reflect their individual voice and style.

Please bring:
• All of your standard favorite painting tools and supplies
• 4-6 substrates (paper, canvas, wood panel – sizes up to 20”)
• 6-8 (at least) acrylic paints of your choice – including black & white
• 4+ brushes of varying sizes
• 1+ printmaking brayer
• 1 palette knife
• Journal or notebook
• Pen or pencil

Instructor provides:
Shop towels
nitrile gloves
palette paper
newsprint pads
gel medium
other assorted sample materials
