CLASS DESCRIPTION: In this group of experienced artists, you will work on your own project(s) alongside your peers gleaning insight and inspiration from those around you. Artist Studio Group is facilitated, NOT instructed by Pat Snyder. Any 2-D media (painting, drawing [including oil pastels], printmaking, collage, papers, including found objects) is acceptable. Toxic mediums (oil, enamels, turps, alcohol, etc.) are not acceptable.

"Watercolor Portraits" with Liv Drahos Every Thursday 1/30/2020 ~ 2/27/2020
Is human portraiture a puzzle to you? Learn techniques and tips that will result in beautiful watercolor portraits. Unlock the secrets to painting facial features and skin tones to capture a realistic likeness with expression. Your painting will come alive right before your eyes! There is a $10 fee per student for supplies.

Powerful Pastels-It begins with the underpainting by Susan Kuznitsky
Visiting Portland artist, Susan Kuznitsky, will be hosting a 2 day workshops in pastels. Each day will have new techniques and demonstrations, but will, also, stand alone as a day class. Please contact Valerie Flynn, Director of Art Education, at email@example.com, for information on single day class registration. Whatever skill level you are at when you start this workshop, will have you reaching the next level by its end. Susan will demonstrate different approaches to doing an underpainting on UART sanded paper. With a strong underpainting, you will learn how to layer hard and soft pastels to create strong, vibrant paintings.
Art Supplies list:
Pastels – A variety of hard and soft pastels and pastel pencils
Soft pastel brands include Sennelier, Terry Ludwig, Great American, Schminke, Unison, Girault.
Hard pastel brands include Rembrandt, NuPastels, Cretacolor. Prepare full size sticks by removing paper and breaking into half sticks.
Pastel Pencils Carb Othello, Conte’, Derwent. A small set or a few individual neutral colors No Alpha Color Brand or Oil Pastels
Surfaces – Sanded paper UArt 400 or 320 grit.
Pastel Premier White – comes in large sheets that can be cut down or packets of 9 x 12 or 12 x 16.
Support – Gator-Board or foam core are both light weight and sturdy
Underpainting – Gamsol – small container A few old brushes – variety of sizes. Or a small palette (at least primaries) of watercolors or acrylics (tubes or fluid acrylics). I will have some to share at the workshop.
Misc.- A few sticks of soft vine charcoal Wide roll of masking tape Paper towels
Feel free to bring in older work or what you are currently working on.
Good quality photo references with pattern of lights and darks to work on for studio workshops

KickStart Art is for every beginner artist, young and old! We teach basic art skills in a fun and easy way. Each month there will be a new class topic, so don’t miss out.
“Hidden Forest” is a one day beginners drawing class, learn sketching techniques to help improve depth and detail in your art. We will be creating a mysterious forest full of trees, forgotten paths and forest creature are just a few things you might find in your drawing. Learning art words like “Overlapping” “Placement” and “Value” will help discover a new world of art!
