Coos Bay, OR − Rocks, Vines and Lines in the Sand, an exhibition of photography and sculptural works by Susan Dimock, will be on display at Coos Art Museum. Dimock an artist from Bandon, Oregon is exhibiting in the Mabel Hansen Gallery at the Museum July 17 through October 2, 2021.
Susan Dimock is a social worker and psychotherapist turned nature photographer based in Bandon, Oregon. She specializes in both birds and oceanscapes, large and small. Susan has done extensive tourism and contract work and her images have been utilized throughout the nation in print and in online publications.
Regarding seven years work on the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge project Dimock said, “My initial goal was simply to learn how to photograph the Oregon coastline and its wildlife. However, during the process of countless days of walking the beaches with my camera, something more occurred within me…. I gained a heightened awareness that this sublime landscape is home to many creatures and that it is a dynamic, complex ecosystem. In tandem with this, came the knowledge that it had become a profound refuge for me as well.”
A free public opening reception for Rocks, Vines and Lines in the Sand will take place Friday July 23 from 5 to 7 pm at the same time as a reception for an exhibition by Ashland, Oregon painter Claire Duncan titled Reflections on the Human Epoch.

27th Maritime Art Exhibition to open at Coos Art Museum
On Saturday July 17, 2021, Coos Art Museum opens its 27th Maritime Art Exhibition in the first floor Maggie Karl Gallery. The juried exhibition displays maritime-themed artwork by major artists from across the United States and Canada. 68 works by 36 of the nation’s leading maritime artists are featured. The works are in a variety of media, including, oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel and sculpture. The exhibition runs through September 25, 2021. It is sanctioned by the American Society of Marine Artists, co-sponsored by the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay and funded by a grant from the Coquille Tribal Fund.
Coos Art Museum’s Annual Maritime Art Exhibition is the American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA) regional competition for the entire western United States. It is the oldest continuous Maritime art competition on the West Coast. The ASMA jurors include: Richard Boyer of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jon Olson of Seal Beach, California, and Len Tantillo of Nassau, New York. Works will be honored for Best in Show; Peoples’ Choice Award; Oregon International Port of Coos Bay Award; Coos Art Museum Board of Directors Award and Honorable Mention Ribbons.
Kimberly Wurster of Coquille, Oregon is the featured maritime artist and her paintings will be highlighted in the adjacent Perkins Gallery during the exhibition. Prior to moving to Oregon, Kimberly Wurster and her husband Scott developed wildlife refuges in Montana. A classical cellist for over forty years, Wurster shifted her artistic focus in 1995 to painting. Kimberly creates her paintings primarily in pastel, watercolor or acrylic, sometimes incorporating ink and other forms of mixed media. She enjoys painting a variety of subjects including landscapes, but has a particular fondness for birds and wildlife. Her work has earned numerous awards for excellence in domestic and international competitions. Recently the Circle Foundation for the Arts named her as a Finalist in their November/December 2020 contest for publication in Art Ideal Magazine. She has exhibited at Coos Art Museum on many occasions including a one-
person exhibition in 2009. Kimberly is member of the ASMA and a Signature Member of Artists for Conservation
The Museum will host its annual maritime fundraising dinner beginning at 5pm, July 17. This exciting event features the popular silent art auction, beer and wine sales, and enjoyable camaraderie. Delicious food offerings will be catered by Black Market Gourmet of Coos Bay. Auction artworks include pieces by participating 27th Maritime Art Exhibition artists and local artists. A special facet of the auction is the sale of recently completed plein air maritime paintings.

A free public opening reception for Reflections on the Human Epoch will take place Friday July 23 from 5 to 7 pm at the same time as a reception for an exhibition by Bandon photographer Susan Dimock titled Rocks, Vines and Lines in the Sand.
In a series of 18 multi-panel paintings Claire Duncan confronts the paradox of wildlife and natural beauty in a man-altered world. The exhibition is augmented by the poetry of Pepper Trail, a poet and naturalist based in Ashland, Oregon
Duncan’s work has won numerous awards including First, Second, and Third place awards in Coos Art Museum’s Expressions West competition and First place in The Artist’s Magazine’s All Media Competition (wildlife). A video segment on her work has appeared on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Oregon Art Beat and on PBS Newshour’s CANVAS website

Coos Bay – Kimberly Wurster of Coquille, Oregon is Coos Art Museum’s Featured Maritime Artist for 2021, during the Museum’s 27th Maritime Art Exhibition. As the Featured Artist, her works will be highlighted with a special one-person exhibition in the Museum’s Perkins Gallery that runs July 17 through September 25, 2021.
