Monotype Printmaking with Pat Snyder and Mike Holm

Dates: Saturday – October 16, 2010
Time: 10:00am to 3:00pm
FOR GRADES 5TH THROUGH 8TH

Since having a large printing press donated to Coos Art Museum in 2006, the Art Education Department has been conducting a variety of successful printmaking workshops for adults. The success of a recent complementary class for youth student made it very clear that this was an art form that our younger students could enjoy and experience successfully. Monotype Printmaking provides the opportunity to create multiple copies of an original art design. Students will learn that monotype is a process that combines spontaneous painting and/or drawing within the fine art of printmaking with an etching press.
This class will provide a non-toxic, safe environment and use water based paints and inks. All materials will be provided and are included in the class fee.

MULTI-MEDIA FANTASY with Anastasia Savenko-Moore

Dates: September 23, 30, October 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2010
Times: 4:00pm to 5:30pm
FOR GRADES 2ND THROUGH 8TH
Many viewers of the 2010 Student Art Exhibit at Coos Art Museum were impressed with the quality of the work done by the young artist of The Little Owl School of Arts in Coquille. We are fortunate to have Little Owl’s instructor, Anastasia Savenko-Moore, at the museum for a six-session multi-media art class. “Our goal will be for every student to complete at least two artworks, a fantasy composition and a portrait of a real or fantasy character.
To achieve this we will discuss various themes and stories, look at art samples, make drawings and sketches in preparation for the final artwork and discuss the effects of composition in “telling a story” in a painting. We will practice with various art mediums and their combinations to achieve their vision and create beautiful artwork pieces.” Students will be invited to display their finished artwork in the opening of the new second floor Clare Wehrle Community Gallery.

Watercolor Techniques with Larry Johnson

Dates: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – August 23, 24 & 25, 2010
Time: 9:00am to 4:00pm
FOR HIGH SCHOOL AND ADULT STUDENTS

“This workshop is designed for those students with some experience in watercolors who feel comfortable with the basic techniques, understand values and are able to mix colors on the palette and/or the paper. I plan to demonstrate a simple snow scene using wet-into-wet techniques that result in soft blending. I’d like to show how I use negative painting to achieve depth in a floral scene. I’d also like to paint something that is rusty with faded paint like an old car, old boat, or a watering can. Time permitting I’ll show you some pouring techniques I have used to get softer blends without picking up the colors previously applied.”

Larry’s previous workshops at CAM have been very popular and well attended. His paintings are a combination of realistic and impressionistic techniques that have gained him a reputation as one of the nation’s top landscape and wildlife artists. He has numerous publications and awards to his credit.
