29th Annual
Maritime Art Exhibit
On Exhibit – Friday, July 7, 2023 – Friday September 22, 2023
Online submission deadline: Friday, May 12, 2023
Background: Coos Art Museum continues its tradition of hosting a Maritime Art Exhibition on the scenic Southern Oregon Coast. The 29th Maritime Art Exhibition is recognized by the American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA).
Featured Artist: Debbie Daniels
Debbie Daniels is a self-taught oil painter who has been painting for four decades. She has been in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Her work may be found in the permanent collection at hospitals and corporations across the US, most notably at Google in Seattle. She is a signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists. Debbie works from her studio at Friday Harbor Atelier in Friday Harbor, WA, and is represented by Gunnar Nordstrom Gallery, Seattle; Articles Gallery, St. Pete; and Waterworks Gallery, Friday Harbor.
Juror: Nicolas Fox
Nicolas Fox resides in North Chatham, NY. He grew up in New York City and on Cape Cod and comes from a sailing family. Graduating from Harvard College, Nick spent years working in boring offices while continuing to paint. A stint as a graphic designer and artist for a home furnishings company reawakened his desire to pursue painting as a career. He is represented by the Copley Society (cosogallery.org) on Newbury Street in Boston, MA and is a Signature Artist member of the American Society of Marine Artists. He is currently the President and a Director of The American Society of Marine Artists. Nick is also the founder of the new Center for American Marine Art at Mystic Seaport Museum.
Juror: Carolyn Hess-Low
Nationally recognized artist Carolyn Hesse-Low graduated from University of California and continued her training at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. In the style of the early California Impressionists, her landscapes, figures and marine subjects capture the changing mood and rugged beauty of what she sees. “I am attracted to the feeling that a scene offers. What appeals to me is a subject that has depth to explore, one that can reveal the feelings within ourselves.”
Juror: William A. Selden
William Selden has been a professional artist all of his adult life. His work encompasses all styles and mediums: acrylic, pastel, watercolor and oils. He pioneered the watercolor technique still in use today by the portrait artists at Disneyland. His artistic talent surfaced at the age of 9. He received a formal art education at both the California Institute of Arts (Chouinard) and the Art Center College of Design. Along with portraits, Mr. Selden specializes in realistic landscapes and ocean scenes sold through art galleries.
