Fish and Fishing Art Competiton in the Maggie Karl and Vaughan Galleries

Fish and Fishing have been key to life on the Oregon Coast. Artists in this competition were challenged to submit works on these themes. From 182 submissions our jurors selected 70 works for display. Works in many media are on view and demonstrate the broadest range of interpretations of the theme. Also, the Coquille Tribe and Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw have generously provided items reflecting the long tradition of fishing on the Coast.

Tony Adam’s Peaceable Kingdom in the Mabel Hansen Gallery

Following the Korean War Allen A. Adams (Tony) used the G.I. Bill to attend Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angels and secured a screen cartoonist job with Walt Disney Studio. Work at Disney was followed by a 30 year career as graphics designer and concept artist with General Dynamics in San Diego. He developed simultaneously as a fine artist exhibiting in California and Arizona. Tony uses considerable skill as a realist to produce works of wildlife, landscape and portraiture. Each of Tony’s animal depictions are charming, and infused with personality.
