The Permanent Collection - Alive, growing, and accessible!

Comprising of 530 works of art, CAM's Permanent Collection includes many by major contemporary artists in America. Among those represented in the collection are Alexander Calder, Warrington Colescott, Red Grooms, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, and Larry Rivers. Over the years, CAM has been able to acquire paintings, prints and some sculptures for its Permanent Collection. The Collection was greatly augmented in 1972-73 when ninety-four prints were purchased with support from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Collection is centered on two areas of focus:

• Contemporary graphic art (prints) by artists of national and international repute
• 20th Century contemporary original works of art in all media by artists living and working in the Pacific Northwest

The Permanent Collection continues to grow. In 2003, three works of art were selected by the Acquisitions Committee and approved by the Board of Directors to join the ranks of CAM’s Permanent Collection. Since it’s initiation in 1995, the Adopt-An-Artwork program has improved the condition of 91 works from the Permanent Collection to date - 3 of those works were ‘adopted’ in 2003.

Works from the Permanent Collection are often on display throughout the Museum, and major exhibitions including works from the Collection are mounted on a regular basis.
