As part of the Opening Weekend festivities, invited Maritime artists set out their easels early on Saturday morning, July 24th and 'painted the day'! A soupy wet fog didn't discourage the artists and by 1:00 pm, 35 paintings were brought back into CAM and placed out for a silent auction. Artists and patrons enjoyed a freshly grilled Salmon barbeque while bidding on the numerous works of art. Grace Boothe of San Diego, both an exhibiting Maritime artist and Plein Air/Wet Paint participant, was very impressed with local scenery. "We have never been to the Southern Oregon Coast and now we know it is a treasure trove for artists to paint. The cliffs, the gardens, the coves, the waterfront and the parks are all terrific subject matter and we intend to come back to paint". |

Laurie Chase of San Francisco, CA whose travels to Greece and Half Moon Bay, CA were the locations of her 2 works in the Maritime exhibit, chose dry docked boats in the Charleston Boat Yard as her subject matter. "Everything is so close, so accessible. I could paint 8 completely different scenes in a matter of 3 miles and still find more subject matter just around the bend." |
