Kathy Tiger: The Elder Series/Simple Things
UNO RICHTER ATRIUM GALLERY
This body of work is about women and aging (specifically a group of elder Quaker women). It invites consideration of being an elder as opposed to being elderly.
At a time in life when many women become "invisible", I thought it would be interesting to challenge
our cultural ideas of aging and beauty by really looking at women over 75 whose long lives and rich
character reveal the deeper meaning of womanly beauty.

Adopt-an-Artwork
MABEL HANSEN GALLERY
Specializing in contemporary American printmakers and Northwest artists, Coos Art Museum's
Permanent Collection has grown through donations. The Museum has received works in need of conservation,
framing, or other maintenance. Friends of the Museum often choose to "adopt an artwork", underwriting the
cost of framing or restoring a work which will remain within the Permanent Collection. These donations, gifts and
bequests are important in the Museum's efforts to ensure that its Permanent Collection will remain a community asset
for many years into the future. View many of the artworks "up for adoption'. |

Ruthanne McSurdy Wong - Assemblage Art
Ruthanne is best known for her work as a theater set
and costume
designer in Bandon, Oregon. However, this exhibition
centers on
another aspect of her artistic accomplishments, the manipulation
of
found objects to create “spirit boxes”. “You
are drawn into a little
world, sometimes narrative, sometimes nonsensical!”

Artistic Microscopy from the Oregon Institute of
Marine Biology: the work of Svetlana Maslakova and George
von Dassow
George and Svetlana are a husband and wife
team of marine
biologists affiliated with the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology
in
Charleston. In conducting research they often capture images
of
great scientific value and outstanding beauty. Among the fantastic
images in this exhibition will be: fluorescent micrographs of
marine
larvae and embryos, "lightscapes" formed by the body
musculature
of marine worms and microphotos of crystals in polarized light.
