The Coos Art Museum is offering a brand new workshop this summer instructed by Kim Kimering. We’ll be creating Art Books using creative ingenuity and a combination of different art practices. Abstract painting, assemblage of found objects, and collage will be used to create a personally meaningful art book!

Kimerling is a prolific professional artist, having had at this time over 100 personal showings of his work in the US and abroad. He’s spent his career as a teacher of the arts at the University of Oregon and the University of Nigeria. The Coos Art Museum is proud to be hosting Kim’s latest workshop for a limited time here on the Oregon Coast.

Descending from a family of craftsmen and folk artists Kim has dedicated most of his life to creative endeavors. While traveling across the western United States and parts of Africa he’s spent his life time bring peoples together and melding cultural inspirations for the purpose of artistic expression and community. Kim graduated from the University of Idaho with degrees in art education. After which he began his teaching career as well as being a uniquely talented artist.

In the creation of these objects Kimerling will guide students through design processes of an accordion format art book, with an emphasis on color theory, texture, and construction techniques. A significant portion of creating an art book is its personal and organic origins which are derived from its creator.

Participants are recommended to bring with them found objects to complete this project. Such as personally significant paper clippings, images, small wood scraps, scrap canvas, tar paper, and soft bits of tin, such as bottle caps, and wire, whatever maybe appealing.

The process of creating the art book will transform the mundane to significance by virtue of artistic endeavor!
