LiNOCUT PRINTMAKING WORKSHOP with Pat Snyder Dates: Saturday - May 17 and 24, 2008 In this introductory workshop, students will learn techniques for the relief printmaking process using the flexibility and ease of linoleum. The linocut is a process similar to the woodcut except the image is engraved on linoleum which offers an easier surface for working with more precision and a greater variety of effects. A relief is achieved by carving into the surface using special tools to leave raised surfaces that are then inked and printed to create a dynamic and textured print. A linocut print can be very simple making it an ideal medium for the beginning printmaker and can also be taken to extreme intricacy by the more experienced artist. There is no reason why your first print cannot be a great image. Students will be introduced to other artists’ approaches with linocuts. There will be demonstrations showing methods for transferring the image to the plate, cutting with gouges and blades and printing with brayer, baren and selected papers. Disregarded by serious artists initially, the linocut came into its own after Picasso and Matisse began to work in the medium. 10 STUDENTS MAX. CLASS FEE: $75 MEMBERS; $80 NON-MEMBERS |

NED MUELLER PLEIN AIR WORKSHOP - OIL, ACRYLIC, PASTEL Dates: Sunday, Monday & Tuesday - July 20, 21 & 22,
2008 Painting is mostly about learning how to see. How to interpret, compare, and edit the objects and colors of the scene we choose to paint. We will talk about seeing things less literally, but in a more “abstract” manner. This enables us to see more of the unlimited possibilities before us. We will talk about and work on what makes a plein air painting work, the mood, rhythm and atmosphere, and an interesting balance of values, shapes, masses and color. I will do class demonstrations and work with each individual as to their own personal needs. Bring a sense of humor and we will work hard and have a good time doing it! Ned is a graduate of the prestigious Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles. His love for life and art is reflected in his superb paintings of a wide range of subjects and done in several mediums. He worked as an illustrator for 25 years while building a solid foundation of professionalism and has worked as a successful full time artist since 1984. He continued to enhance his knowledge and skills by taking workshops with master artists Harley Brown, Richard Schmid, Bettina Steinke, Del Gish, and Sergei Bongart. He has written several articles on painting for the Artists Magazine, is called upon to jury shows, and is a popular and enthusiastic workshop teacher around the country and abroad. He is currently working on a book about painting. He is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America, The Northwest Watercolor Society, The Plein Air Painters of America, Northwest Pastel Society (Distinguished Pastelist), Northwest Rendezous Society, Laguna Plein Air Painters and Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters. He exhibits his work in some of the finest shows and galleries in the country and has won numerous awards. He has been invited to participate in the Great American Artist Show in Cincinnati, Ohio and the American Plein Air Painters Show. As this publication is going to press, Ned is preparing for a workshop trip to China with 25 students. 16 STUDENTS MAX. CLASS FEE: $300 |

WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP
with Larry Johnson Dates: Tues., Wed. & Thurs. - August 26, 27 & 28, 2008 Larry Johnson will be returning to CAM to reprise his very popular 2006 watercolor workshop. Larry does not begin a workshop by demonstrating how to paint a complete painting. He will teach you techniques to accomplish different elements in a variety of ways - two or three ways to do rocks, trees, grass, skies and reflections. He shows students how to do “parts” of the painting and then combine those parts into a finished piece. His painting technique is a combination of realistic and impressionistic styles and by adding an overall mood to his artwork, he creates what he calls “the Artist’s Touch”. Elements that are discovered while looking closer at one of his pieces are “little surprises” that may tell the viewer more of the story. He will also be adding some new materials and techniques to the workshop. Larry has gained the reputation as one of the nation’s top wildlife artists and has numerous publications and awards to his credit. This workshop is open to all levels of watercolor experience. 12 STUDENTS MAX. CLASS FEE: $150 |
